The Punishers

Starting in 2000, Harbinger began recruiting allies in his war on crime (and those he considers criminals). The team did not select a name for itself, but has become known as The Punishers in the popular press.

Despite their harsh methods, the team is well-regarded by many citizens of New York; this goodwill is due mostly to their rescue efforts during 9/11, their uncovering and foiling of a subway bombing plot in 2004, and their "execution" of a serial child murderer in 2005. The team has gained an uneasy acceptance in the hero community, which grudgingly admits that NYC is safer with the Punishers than without them.
