New League of Heroes

(Active 2006 - date)

The New League of Heroes is a largely American coalition of hero groups and independent superheroes brought together under the charter of the original League of Heroes, which formally disbanded in 1983. Although most of the heroes and groups operate independently of the League, the League provides a structure to coordinate when a threat emerges that requires a coordinated response from the members.

Membership & Structure

The League's current, formal membership includes the following superteams: The Covenant, The Crusaders, The Emerald Guardians, Hero Corps, The Invincibles, The Fabulous Five, The New Champions, The Rough Riders, and the Sentinels. The Punishers were members until it became clear that Harbinger was unwilling to compromise or take direction from the League's executive committee.

The League operates according to a charter established by the original League of Heroes; major decisions are made by a vote during an assembly of all of the League's members. Other decisions are made and carried out by an executive committee elected by the full League.

The current executive committee is chaired by Thunderstrike. The other members are Spikedriver, Man O War, Lady Liberty, Redeemer, Doctor Silverback, Shambling Man, and Lonestar.

Recently, the executive committee has decided to recruit a group of heroes to form a permanent team operating out of its headquarters in Boston. With the fall of the Minute Men during the events of World in Flames, Boston has become a haven for super-criminals. The League hopes that a permanent team in Boston will be able to apprehend these villains (many of whom escaped from Stronghold) and, perhaps, bring the Minute Men's killers to justice.

Resources

Financial

The League originally received support from Spikedriver's personal fortune, but as scandal struck Clayton Industries, this source of income has begun to run dry. In the meantime, the League applied for and received status as a non-profit organizations and has begun seeking funds from grantmakers, foundations, and private donors to support its operations and pay its staff.

Headquarters

The League has recently signed a year lease for several floors of Boston City Hall. When complete secrecy is required, the team also has access to Doctor Destroyer's abandoned arctic base near the Ross Ice Shelf. The League recently swept the base in search of listening devices or any other unpleasant surprises left behind by the archvillain, and have also installed security systems of their own to detect any unauthorized entry.

Staff

Many of the teams that make up the League have some staff of their own. The League does maintain seven full-time staff positions; these individuals are over-worked and underpaid, essentially doing the jobs of several people at once. They are, however, dedicated to the League's mission and have the complete trust of the League's executive committee.

General Counsel, Faridah Boubakeur. The general counsel is responsible for all legal matters related to the New League of Heroes. She also coordinates the efforts of other attorneys hired by the League to deal with legal problems, and provides legal advice to League members regarding their super-heroic exploits.

Security Officer, Adam Dai. The security officer provides on-site security for the League's Boston headquarters and acts as a driver and pilot for the team stationed there.

Technical Support & Maintenance, Takahashi Takumi. Provides technical support for the League and maintains the vehicles and facilities, particularly at the Boston HQ.

Communications Director / Development Officer, Chester Earle. Responsible for managing the public image of the League as well as identifying and securing income from donations and grants.

Physician, position currently vacant. The League's physician is responsible for providing medical care to League members as needed--a challenge given the unique physiology of some of its members and the trust required between the patient and physician.

Office Manager, Kami. Manages the office of the League's Boston HQ.

Archivist / Curator, Oscar Diaz. Responsible for maintaining an archive of League documents and maintaining the League's collection of objects. Also responsible for managing the display of items from the collection in the League's public gallery on the first floor of Boston City Hall.

History & Exploits

Since being re-formed in 2006, the League responded to a breakout at Stronghold and thwarted Doctor Destroyer's attempt, during World in Flames, to conquer AltEarth. For more information about the history of the original League, see League of Heroes.
