The Escapist (1920 - 1984)

The Escapist's true identity was Tom Mayflower, disabled nephew of escape artist Max Mayflower (who performed under the stage name of Misterioso). When Max was fatally shot while performing onstage, he gave Tom a golden key and a costume.

As long as Tom wore the costume and the key, he found that he was able to walk without difficulty and to perform amazing feats of escapology. Tom used his powers to fight crime under the guise of The Escapist.

After the war, the Escapist travelled the world fighting against the machinations of the mysterious organization, the Iron Chain.
