Episode 4

Bane Missing

Cypher is approached in her lab at MCU by a pair of detectives asking questions about Martin Bane, a graduate student in her inorganic chemistry seminar. He’s disappeared and it looks as if the Syndicate may be involved.

Power Outage

The power goes out at the YMCA where Feral Cat works. Power has been restored throughout Millenium City, but for some reason this neighborhood continues to experience power shortages. It’s maddening because the department in charge of city utilities refuses to say anything about the problem beyond bland bureaucratic statements that they are working to solve it.

Do you dream what I dream?

Dimentia and Feral Cat share the same, disturbing dream. It features Millenium City at night, just like Dementia’s nightmare in Episode 1. The city is dominated by black banners with silver crosses and stylized gold lions; they bear the latin motto “Prosperitas per Potentia” (“Prosperity through Power.”) On a billboard, Dementia sees the image of the armored figure she met in the first dream. In the dream Dementia leads Feral Cat on a leash to track her fleeing sister, Kate. Feral Cat has just begun to maul the child when both awaken. The two act as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened, and don’t discuss the dream.

The Gremlin's Gambit

The team meets at Vincent’s to discuss strategy. Cypher investigates the power outages; other members investigate the disappearance of Martin Bane, paying a visit to his apartment and interviewing his girlfriend. They learn that he owes money to the Syndicate, and discover evidence that he has been abducted.

The Grey Gremlin leaves a note at Vincent’s declaring that he has kidnapped Madeleine and providing a series of clues from The Gumshoe’s past leading the team to a suburban home that was burnt to the ground during the blackout.

1928 North Taylor Court

In the ruins of the home, the Replacements find Martin Bane dressed as the Grey Gremlin, constantly replacing the needle on a record player playing Al Jolson’s 1928 hit, “Sonny Boy.” Madeleine is bound to a chair in the same basement room.

The heroes rescue the pair just before the bomb in the record player detonates in a flash of white phosphorous.

The team brings Madeleine, who has been poisoned, to Cypher’s friend, Dr. Silverback. Silverback administers an antidote.
