Episode 1
Dementia's Dream
Dementia has a nightmare involving her estranged younger sister, Kate, who is a powerful mentalist and member of the Champions (aka Redeemer). In the dream, Dementia defeats a group of armored agents, but is overpowered by an unidentified armored figure.
Unauthorized Withdrawl
Dementia and Cypher stop a robbery of the downtown branch of National Union Bank. To their surprise, one of the crooks is armed with an energy rifle. After making short work of the robbers, our heroes discover that someone has tunneled into the vault and escaped with cash and the contents of numerous safe deposit boxes through a tunnel bored/burned through the earth.
In the tunnel, the pair discover an unusual booby-trap: a sensor used to detect seismic tremors connected to a set of charges usually used in deep-sea mining and specially designed to operate in high pressure and without oxygen.
The exit to the tunnel, which leads to an apparently abandoned construction site, is sealed with a black, organic, adhesive substance.
Using her telepathy, Dementia learns that the heist was planned by a burly Polynesian (or Hawaiin?) man calling himself “the Shark” (see Outlaws) and an ex-VIPER agent known as “The Worm.” Dementia and Cypher decide to investigate at Jake’s, one of Worm’s favorite drinking holes.
Trouble at Jake's
The Gumshoe has been shadowing the Worm in the employ of a manufacturer of energy weapons. He has beento identify the source and manufacture of black market energy weapons in Millennium City. While staking out Jake’s, he observes Dementia and Cypher, break up a backroom card game in pursuit of the Worm and his bartender associate.
The trio open a hatch in the bar’s backroom and follow a finished, concrete tunnel outfitted with electric lights and sneakily exit via another hatch to find themselves in an abandoned factory. Hiding behind some crates marked “Green Scales and Guages Co.,” they observe Worm and Jake (the bartender).
Revenant Rises No More
Feral Cat investigates Revenant’s murder. Asking around, he learns the location of the murder from a witness (a homeless man). He also learns that several men were involved, one whom seemed a reluctant accomplice. He decides to check it out.
At the scene, Feral Cat doesn’t smell gunpowder but does smell ozone; he suspects energy weapons were fired in the alley the previous night. He catches, then loses, the scent of a man wearing fine cologne. Through a combination of trickery and coercion, he obtains information from the owner of a dry cleaner next to the site of the murder (and from the man’s son). FC learns that the owner left the gate open for a blond-haired gangster named “Donnie,” some kind neighborhood boss known to frequent a private club called “the Hideout.” Feral Cat evades an ominous black sedan and scopes out the club. Catching Donnie’s scent, but trusting his instincts, FC decides not to enter the club. When he spots Donnie entering a black Hummer with two other men, he pursues the vehicle by bounding from rooftop to rooftop. He follows the car to the abandoned Green Scales and Gauges factory. FC manages to hide himself in the criss-cross of steel rafters in order to learn what he can about one of the men he suspects killed the Revenant.
