Defenders of Justice
Active (1941-1946)
History / Background
Founded in 1941, the DoJ was based in Nightraven's home city of Detroit, Michigan. The city was an appropriate headquarters for the team, for at the beginning of 1942, all automobile assembly lines in Detroit ceased production of civilian vehicles and manufactured only military vehicles. Military goods produced in Detroit were shipped throughout the world to aid America’s allies in the war effort. By 1944, Detroit was the leading supplier of military goods in the United States and was famously dubbed "the Arsenal of Democracy" by FDR.
In addition to fighting crime in Detroit, the Defenders uncovered Nazi conspiracies within the United States and battled spies and saboteurs such as Grey Gremlin I. In 1945, the team joined the Freedom Battallion and, under the leadership of Captain Freedom, spearheaded the U.S. invasion of Japan (see History). The DoJ disbanded shortly after the war.
